Here is one more achievement by India's Instrument Research and Development Establishment (IRDE),a lab of DRDO for developing the Laser Guided bomb tech from the scratch.

The development of technology for producing Laser Guided Bomb(LGB) is part of ongoing research towards achieving self-dependency in the defense area being done in IRDE, a lab of DRDO, Scientist and Public Relation Officer of IRDE told PTI.

LGB uses a laser designator to mark or illuminate a target. The reflected laser light from the target is then detected by the seeker which sends signals to the weapon's control surfaces to guide it towards the designated point, he said.

With its completion passengers will ultimately be able to speed from the Italian city of Milan to Zurich in less than three hours and further north into Germany, cutting the journey time by an hour. The project carries a price tag of 9.74 billion swiss francs ($10.25 billion.)

USA president Barack Obama will be the Golden holy shrine of Sikhs during his first visit to India this November. He will visit the Golden Temple and offer prayers at Harmandar Sahib, the sanctum sanctorum.

"Obama will visit the Golden Temple. US embassy officials and security officers have been coming here at regular intervals for weeks. We are cooperating with them," SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar told IANS.

"We have started preparations (ahead of the visit). Security has been beefed up in Amritsar district," Amritsar's Deputy Commissioner K.S. Pannu told IANS.

"Obama will visit Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) and Khalsa College. But there could be last minute changes. The final plan is yet to be sorted out," said Pannu.

What is worrying security agencies is that Obama is arriving on a Sunday, which attracts the highest number of devotees. The rush could be even more this time as Diwali falls Nov 5, making it a long weekend holiday till Nov 7.

"So far it has not been decided in which hotel President Obama will have his lunch," the official added.

(AFP) Growing up near the air force base in Dayton, Ohio, Mr Tejdeep Singh Rattan, knew he wanted to serve in uniform. When he was turned away the third time from serving in the military, Mr Rattan became suspicious.

“I was, like, I don’t know what’s going on,” he said. “I was very introverted at the time. But I said I really want to do this, and you guys are sending me out again and again.”

The 31-year-old is now US Army Captain Rattan and since July the head dentist at the Fort Drum base in New York. In what appears to be a quiet shift, the US military has allowed Mr Rattan and two other Sikhs to serve while retaining their turbans and beards, which are required by their faith.

(IANS) India is listed as the third most powerful country in the world after the US and China and the fourth most powerful bloc after the US, China and the European Union in a new official US report.

The new global power lineup for 2010 also predicted that New Delhi's clout in the world will further rise by 2025, according to "Global Governance 2025" jointly issued by the National Intelligence Council (NIC) of the US and the European Union's Institute for Security Studies (EUISS).

Using the insights of a host of experts from Brazil, Russia, India and China, among others, and fictionalised scenarios, the report illustrates what could happen over the next 25 years in terms of global governance.

In 2010, the US tops the list of powerful countries/regions, accounting for nearly 22 percent of the global power.

(IANS) China has now set its sight on planet Venus, where it hopes to land a space probe by 2015. A probe to Mars and the country's first moon landing has also been chalked out.

The first unmanned space laboratory, Tiangong-1, will be launched in 2011, after which there would be the first unmanned docking with the Shenzhou-8 spacecraft, Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut to visit space in 2003, was quoted as saying by the People's Daily.

Manned spacecraft Shenzhou-9 and unmanned Shenzhou-10 will be launched in 2012, and by 2020, China will launch its first orbital space station, he said.

Ye Peijian, commander-in-chief of the lunar-probe programme, said an orbit of the moon can be expected by 2020. China may launch its first manned moon landing in 2025, a probe to Mars by 2013 and to Venus by 2015.

Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa are leading a global decline in new HIV infections, the UN has said.

UNAids said 22 countries in the world's worst affected region had seen a drop in new cases of more than 25%.

The fall was because of greater awareness and better use of preventative measures, it said.

But UNAids also noted that cases of HIV were increasing in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and among gay men in developed countries.

The Congressional Made in America Act, introduced by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, requires the Congress to buy goods and services made in America for the first time in nearly seven decades.

Similarly, the Berry Amendment Extension Act, introduced by Congressman Larry Kissell directed the Department of Homeland Security to buy clothing, tents, and other products made in America.

“These two bills, unanimously passed by the House, will help in creating American jobs and expanding America's manufacturing sector,” said Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

(AP)Cuban leader Fidel Castro has said that Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is a bought-and-paid-for CIA agent who always popped up when former US President George W Bush needed to scare the world, arguing that documents recently posted on the Internet prove it.

"Any time Bush would stir up fear and make a big speech, bin Laden would appear threatening people with a story about what he was going to do," Castro told state media during a meeting with a Lithuanian-born writer known for advancing conspiracy theories about world domination. "Bush never lacked for bin Laden's support. He was a subordinate."

Castro said documents posted on WikiLeaks.org - a website that recently released thousands of pages of classified documents from the Afghan war - "effectively proved he was a CIA agent." He did not elaborate.

(PTI) Israel has to strike Iran's Bushehr nuclear power facility within the "next eight days" if it wants to foil Tehran's nuclear ambitions as Russia will load a shipment of atomic fuel into the plant's core this week, a former US envoy to the UN has said.

John Bolton made the comments in an interview to the Fox Business Network, a week after Russia announced that it will begin loading the Bushehr reactor with uranium fuel from August 21.

The former US diplomat warned that once the Bushehr facility is operational it will be too late for a military air strike against Iran because such an attack would spread radiation and harm Iranian civilians.

"Once that uranium, once those fuel rods are very close to the reactor, certainly once they're in the reactor, attacking it means a release of radiation, no question about it," Bolton said.

The Pentagon has said that secret information will be even more damaging to security and risk more lives than WikiLeaks' initial release of some 76,000 war documents.

"This organization will not be threatened by the Pentagon or any other group," Julian Assange told reporters in Stockholm. "We proceed cautiously and safely with this material."

In an interview with The Associated Press, he said that if U.S. defense officials want to be seen as promoting democracy then they "must protect what the United States' founders considered to be their central value, which is freedom of the press."

(IANS)Whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks is preparing to release 15,000 more secret intelligence documents about the Afghan war, leading the Pentagon to warn that it has "already put far too many lives at risk".

An estimated 92,000 secret US military records about the war in Afghanistan were leaked to the media by Wikileaks in July. Countries across the world are now pouring over the documents.

"We are about halfway through them," WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was quoted as saying by the CNN. "This is a very expensive process."

The Pentagon warned WikiLeaks Thursday against releasing more documents.
