Children who lived near major highways or railroad intersections have higher diagnoses of asthma, says a new study.
Mayo Clinic researchers used this study to show how neighbourhood environment is a risk factor in understanding the development of paediatric asthma.
"Using nearest propensity score, children who lived in census tracts facing the intersection with major highways or railways had about 40 to 70 percent increased risk of developing childhood asthma," says Young Juhn, Mayo Clinic's Department of Community Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
Mayo Clinic researchers used this study to show how neighbourhood environment is a risk factor in understanding the development of paediatric asthma.

Twitter has fixed a major bug that saw many users of the service appear to lose all of their followers and friends.
The problem began when a flaw was uncovered that allowed people to force others to "follow" them on the site.People who typed "accept" followed by a person's Twitter name forced the user to be added to their list of followers.The hack was quickly passed around the social network with many people using it to force celebrities to follow them.It could have easily allowed spammers to insert messages into thousands of accounts.

Shahid Kapoor-starrer Badmaash Company, about four friends doing con jobs to become rich overnight, has got good reviews and viewers have enjoyed their capers but first time director Parmeet Sethi says he wrote the script of the film in frustration.
"The bell actually rang three years back when I was sure that I will direct a film. This is the second script that I have written," said Parmeet.
"Yash Raj Films (YRF) had approved my first script too, but we couldn't make it. I waited for one and a half years, but the film didn't take off and I was frustrated. I was in a dilemma whether to stick to my plans to direct a film or go back to acting. Then in frustration, I wrote this script," he added.

London: Here's some good news for coffee buffs — drinking two cups of the beverage a day — can protect some heart attack victims from complications that may lead to coronary failure, a new study has claimed.
Researchers have carried out the study and found that heart attack patients who drank three or more cups of coffee a day were 90 per cent less likely to develop the condition, known as left ventricular systolic dysfunction or LVSD.
The study's recommendation goes against evidence of people suffering palpitations and irregular heart rhythms after drinking strong coffee, the 'Daily Express' reported.
For their study, the researchers monitored 374 male and female heart attack patients. Those with normal blood pressure were found to be protected against developing LVSD by drinking coffee.

Apple has announced that its iPad tablet computer will go on sale in nine countries outside the US on 28 May.
The new markets are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
The cheapest model will retail at £429 in the UK. The same version in the US costs $499 (£337).
Part of the difference in price is due to British VAT and US sales tax. The same model before tax costs £37 ($55) more in the UK.
The consumer gadget was launched in the US domestic market on 3 April, but Apple had to delay deliveries to international consumers.
