Microsoft chief Bill Gates will adopt a backward village in Bihar during his day-long visit to the state on Wednesday, officials said. The philanthropist, accompanied by the officials of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will visit the state for the first time.
Gates would adopt Gularia village in Khagaria, about 170 km from here, and help improve the socio-economic condition of the people, the district's Superintendent of Police Sudhanshu Kumar said.
At present, the village, comprising mainly Mahadalits, considered poorer than Dalits, does not have even basic civic amenities like running water, electricity, schools and health centres.
Gates is also scheduled to meet Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the state capital to discuss development issues and changes taking place for the poor.

Using several of the largest supercomputers in the nation, a team of physicists led by Ohio State University has been able to simulate the behavior of silica in a high-temperature, high-pressure form that is particularly difficult to study firsthand in the lab.

Children who lived near major highways or railroad intersections have higher diagnoses of asthma, says a new study.
Mayo Clinic researchers used this study to show how neighbourhood environment is a risk factor in understanding the development of paediatric asthma.
"Using nearest propensity score, children who lived in census tracts facing the intersection with major highways or railways had about 40 to 70 percent increased risk of developing childhood asthma," says Young Juhn, Mayo Clinic's Department of Community Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
Mayo Clinic researchers used this study to show how neighbourhood environment is a risk factor in understanding the development of paediatric asthma.

Twitter has fixed a major bug that saw many users of the service appear to lose all of their followers and friends.
The problem began when a flaw was uncovered that allowed people to force others to "follow" them on the site.People who typed "accept" followed by a person's Twitter name forced the user to be added to their list of followers.The hack was quickly passed around the social network with many people using it to force celebrities to follow them.It could have easily allowed spammers to insert messages into thousands of accounts.

Shahid Kapoor-starrer Badmaash Company, about four friends doing con jobs to become rich overnight, has got good reviews and viewers have enjoyed their capers but first time director Parmeet Sethi says he wrote the script of the film in frustration.
"The bell actually rang three years back when I was sure that I will direct a film. This is the second script that I have written," said Parmeet.
"Yash Raj Films (YRF) had approved my first script too, but we couldn't make it. I waited for one and a half years, but the film didn't take off and I was frustrated. I was in a dilemma whether to stick to my plans to direct a film or go back to acting. Then in frustration, I wrote this script," he added.

The university, founded by Tagore in 1921, reverberated at dawn to his touching songs as students and teachers - resplendent in traditional dresses - went around the campus in a procession singing his compositions.
