In a survey conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, majority of technology experts and stakeholders believe that social networking and online sharing is just for today’s youth frenzy.

More than 2/3 of those surveyed indicated that the Millennial generation  otherwise known as Generation Y  will continue to use social networking tools as they mature into adult life stages and have families of their own.

The research is part of Pew’s fourth “Future of the Internet” study which includes responses from selected experts and Internet  users who were asked to think about “the future of the Internet-connected world between now and 2020.”

India records highest rise in gas production worldwide.

India recorded the highest rise in natural gas output worldwide in 2009 after Reliance Industries' eastern offshore KG-D6 field came into production, global energy giant BP Plc said.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-run RIL began gas production from the Krishna Godavari basin in April, 2009, and its 60 million standard cubic metres per day output led to a 75 per cent jump in natural gas availability in the country to 140 mmscmd.

"Last year, India had the highest increase in production of natural gas worldwide. And I just checked, it also had the highest corresponding increase in consumption in natural gas worldwide," BP Plc Group Chief Economist Christof Ruhl said.

Facebook tie up with Malaysia's MOL for payment credits

With growing in members, Facebook is partnering with a Malaysian company to sell credits at retail outlets across Asia for the first time, aiming to make it easier for millions of people to purchase virtual goods and play games on the social networking site while boosting revenue for developers.

Electronic payments company MOL, part of the business empire of tycoon Vincent Tan will offer the online currency from Aug. 1 at more than 500,000 outlets including 7-Eleven stores, Internet cafes and online banks in five Southeast Asian countries, India, Australia and New Zealand, company spokesman Nor Badron said Friday.

The move is targeting people who don't have a credit card, particularly younger Facebook users, and those who don't want to take the risk of making electronic payments online.

Legendary Harley-Davidson, the USA-based heavyweight bike maker opened its first dealership outlet in the country in Hyderabad on Friday.

Though the company has identified dealers in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bangalore, the outlet in Hyderabad - Banjara Harley-Davidson - became the first to start operations.

"We will launch our bikes in other cities before the end of this year," said Anoop Prakash, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India after the outlet was formally inaugurated by Telugu Film star N T Ramarao.

The privately held company, which is also suing HTC Corp and LG Electronics Inc, waged a long legal battle with BlackBerry maker Research In Motion that led to an eventual settlement.

NTP filed lawsuits on Thursday in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia accusing the companies of infringing eight patents related to the delivery of email "over wireless communications systems."

I don't know what China wants to prove with renewal of Google's licence to operate in China, the internet giant has said.

Google gave no details of the licence renewal.

There had been speculation China would revoke the licence after Google began redirecting Chinese users to its unfiltered search site in Hong Kong.

Pirate Bay Hacked by Argentina Hacker.

An Argentinian hacker named Ch Russo claims that he and two associates have found several SQL injection vulnerabilities in The Pirate Bay’s database, which granted him access to all user information, including usernames and e-mails.

According to KrebsOnSecurity, who spoke with Ch Russo on the phone, the hackers did not modify the user data or give it away to a third party. They did, as they say, consider how much this info would be worth to various anti-piracy outfits such as the RIAA.

“Probably these groups would be very interested in this information, but we are not to sell it. Instead we wanted to tell people that their information may not be so well protected,” Ch Russo said.

iPhone app developer Jason Ting reveled that in just one day, iAds generated almost $1,400 in revenue for his free iPhone 4 app.

Yesterday, Ting’s app was unleashed on the App Store. It’s a program that lets you turn your iPhone’s flash  a new feature for the iPhone 4 into an LED flashlight at will. While the app did solidly on its first day of sales, what impressed Ting most were the stats for the free, iAd-supported version.

Ting reports that the free app alone generated $1,372.20 in revenue on Day One. The app’s eCPM (that’s “effective cost per thousand,” meaning the amount of revenue you earn per 1,000 impressions) was a whopping $147.55 — for those of you who don’t work in advertising, this eCPM is highly unusual.
