The research will not involve the destruction of human embryos.
Induced pluripotent stem (IPS) cells were developed in 2007.
At the time, scientists said it had the potential to offer many of the advantages of embryonic stem cells without any of the ethical downsides.

A team of scientists of the National Immunology Institute of India, led by Mr Avdesh Surolia, has developed a fresh approach to insulin injection wherein 'Supramolecular Insulin Assembly-II (SIA-II)', a form of the hormone, is used for a sustained treatment of diabetes mellitus type-I.
The studies constitute the first work of its kind where a single administration of SIA-II to animal models of diabetes, such as rats, has been experimentally demonstrated to lower blood glucose levels to normal values for as many as for 120 days.
SIA-II, which is in the form of a prodrug, when injected releases just above basal levels of insulin into the blood in a sustained manner, Mr Surolia said.

London: It's business as unusual for a British milkman - the 69-year-old has become fluent in at least two Indian languages: Gujarati and Bengali, as many of his customers can't speak English.
John "Jimmy" Mather first delivered milk in 1960 and soon made friends with the few immigrants on his round from India and Bangladesh. And, as more Asian families settled in with very little or no English, this British milkman started learning their language and mastered spoken Gujarati and Bengali, the Daily Express reported.
"When I began in 1960 there used to be a handful of Asian families in the region. I can still remember the first few people I served. They were good, decent folk but obviously their English wasn't good. So I picked it up myself and it made things a whole lot easier," he was quoted as saying.

New York: A judge in New York has issued a temporary restraining order on the transfer of Facebook Inc.'s assets, after a suit by a New York man who claims to own an 84 per cent stake in the social-networking company, a media report said on Tuesday.
Paul D Ceglia filed a suit in the Supreme Court of New York's Allegany County ON June 30, claiming that a 2003 contract he signed with Facebook founder and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg entitles him to ownership of the company and monetary damages, Wall Street Journal reported on its website.
Judge Thomas Brown, who issued the temporary restraining order earlier this month, is hearing the suit. Facebook has requested that the case be moved to federal court.

Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has signed a whopping Rs 200 crore endorsement deal with a talent management company, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar in the corporate contract sweepstakes.
Dhoni has entered into a three-year deal with Rhiti Sports Management and Mindscapes, which will manage the Indian skipper's long list of endorsements and brand associations, corporate profile, patents and digital rights, images, visibility on social networking sites and merchandise through a joint venture.
Tendulkar's three-year deal with sports management firm Iconix, signed in 2006, was worth Rs 180 crore.
Confirming the development, Rhiti Sports General Manager (Operations) Sanjay Pandey said as per the agreement, the company will be looking after Dhoni's entire spectrum of endorsements.

The Phantom Eye is not exactly sleek, but it's one of the greenest aircraft out there -- its only byproduct is water.
The aircraft heralds a potential new market in data and communications collection, Boeing says. Later this summer, it will be shipped from Boeing's Phantom Works facility in St. Louis to NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center for ground and taxi testing. The debut flight will likely take place next year and should last four to eight hours, a mere preview of the aircraft's apparent capabilities.
In terms of power, Phantom Eye is a lightweight -- it has two 2.3 liter, four-cylinder engines that provide 150 hp each, not much more than your average car. This makes sense, because Ford provided the engines, according to a Boeing news release.
The plane has a 150-foot wingspan and can carry up to a 450-pound payload, Boeing says. It will cruise at 150 knots, or 170 miles per hour.
The prototype of a high-tech British roboplane capable of attacking targets as far away as Afghanistan was unveiled by defense contractor BAE Systems in the U.K. Monday.
It's the latest effort by Boeing to build aircraft powered by hydrogen. The firm claimed firsties on a hydrogen fuel cell aircraft back in 2008 when a different Phantom Works division flew a manned aircraft powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
Phantom Eye evolved from Boeing's Condor aircraft, also powered by a piston engine, which made history by reaching a top altitude of 67, 028 feet. Its likely descendants include the Phantom Ray drone, which looks like a slim B-2.

Acute poverty prevails in eight Indian states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, together accounting for more poor people than in the 26 poorest African nations combined, a new ‘multidimensional’ measure of global poverty has said.
The new measure, called the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), was developed and applied by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative(OPHI) with Undp support. It will be featured in the forthcoming 20th anniversary edition of the Undp Human Development Report.

Want to stave off dementia? All you need to do is to eat walnuts everyday, according to a new study, led by an Indian-origin researcher.
Dr Abha Chauhan and his colleagues at New York State Institute have carried out the study and found eating walnuts on a regular basis can keep one's mental skills up.
According to the researchers, vitamin E and flavonoids in walnuts actually help in destroying harmful free radical chemicals that cause dementia. "Walnuts may have a beneficial effect in reducing the risk, delaying the onset or slowing progression of Alzheimer's disease," the 'Daily Express' quoted Dr Chauhan as saying.

A new tool examines the cursor behaviour of search-engine users to decide if they are shopping or merely surfing.
Eugene Agichtein and Qi Guo at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, has said that websites like Google commonly display sponsored results above the actual ones, which can be annoying for someone who's not shopping.
They created a web browser add-on that tracks the cursor, and found that the data could help to distinguish between a "browsing" and "shopping" search session over 96 per cent of the time.
"As the session progresses, our system would be able to make increasingly accurate predictions of intent," New Scientist quoted Agichtein as saying.

Several Hindus were attacked and forced out of their homes in Pakistan's southern Sindh province after a boy of the community drank water from a cooler outside a mosque.
About 60 Hindu men, women and children were recently forced to abandon their homes at Memon Goth in Karachi, the capital of Sindh, after influential tribesmen of the area objected to the boy drinking water.
"All hell broke loose when my son, Dinesh drank water from a cooler outside a mosque. Upon seeing him do that, the people of the area started beating him up," a Hindu man named Meerumal told The News daily.
"Later, around 150 tribesmen attacked us, injuring seven of our people who were taken to the Jinnah Hospital," he said.

Researchers are using computer programs to develop a fast and efficient method of generating vaccines for new strains of flu viruses.
Dimitris Papamichail, and a team of researchers from Stony Brook University have created algorithms that will design viruses that serve as live vaccines, which are then synthesised to specification.
The new method is called Synthetic Attenuated Virus Engineering (SAVE).
"Our approach is not only useful for influenza; it is also applicable to a wide range of viruses," said Papamichail.

Using MRI body scanners doctors demonstrated that even super-slim people could have high levels of internal fat collecting around the heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas. These people, dubbed "skinny-fats", could be seriously putting their health at risk.
"The fat we can see on overweight people is subcutaneous fat," The Daily Telegraph quoted Dr Ron McCoy, Melbourne-based spokesperson for the Royal College of Australian GPs, as saying. However, what could be more dangerous is visceral fat or the fat we can't see but which surrounds vital organs.

In probably the first effort by a government ministry to experiment with the new age internet tools, the Twitter account was created on Thursday, which initially had only two posts.
A Facebook account is also being planned as is the launch of a new web portal by the public diplomacy division of the external affairs ministry, an official told IANS.
