iPhone app developer Jason Ting reveled that in just one day, iAds generated almost $1,400 in revenue for his free iPhone 4 app.

Yesterday, Ting’s app was unleashed on the App Store. It’s a program that lets you turn your iPhone’s flash  a new feature for the iPhone 4 into an LED flashlight at will. While the app did solidly on its first day of sales, what impressed Ting most were the stats for the free, iAd-supported version.

Ting reports that the free app alone generated $1,372.20 in revenue on Day One. The app’s eCPM (that’s “effective cost per thousand,” meaning the amount of revenue you earn per 1,000 impressions) was a whopping $147.55 — for those of you who don’t work in advertising, this eCPM is highly unusual.

Google 'activating 160,000 Android phones a day'.

Google is now activating 160,000 mobile phones using its Android software a day, equivalent to 4.8m a month, according to the company's chief executive, Eric Schmidt.

The number is also accelerating, having been put at 100,000 a day in the third week of May during Google's annual I/O conference, Schmidt said – indicating sales growth of 60% per month.

"We have seen a tremendous increase in adoption," Schmidt said in an interview exclusive to the Guardian in the UK. "We've also seen a growth in the number of apps available for Android – there are now approximately 65,000 compared to only 50,000 a month ago." He believes that that means Android could have reached the volume necessary to become an essential mobile operating system – and perhaps the equivalent of Windows on PCs.

Now Asians are wealthy then Europeans.

The wealth of rich Asians has surpassed Europe's millionaires for the first time as the region's stock and property prices rebounded from the global recession, a report showed on Wednesday.

The wealth of Asia's high net worth individuals — those with liquid assets of at least $1 million — jumped 31 per cent last year to $9.7 trillion, surpassing Europe's $9.5 trillion, according to a report by Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and Capgemini. For the first time, the size of Asia's rich population equaled that of Europe at 3 million.

"The star performer was Asia-Pacific, the only region in which both macroeconomic and market drivers of wealth expanded significantly in 2009," the report said.

Paid-content system for publishers by Google may be coming by year-end

Google which had hinted for nearly a year now that it was working on building some sort of paid content system for publishers, is reportedly set to launch such a system by year-end. According to a report in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Google is now reaching out to publishers to get them to sign up for the system, which it is calling Newspass.

Google wouldn't confirm the La Repubblica report, saying "we don't pre-announce products and don't have anything to announce at this time." But the Newspass system - at least from the translation of the La Repubblica article - appears to have many elements of a paid content proposal Google made to the Newspaper Association of America last fall. Back then, Google said it was "uniquely positioned to help publishers create a scalable e-commerce system via our Checkout product and also enable users to find this content via search - even if it's behind a paywall."

Virgin America has partnered with Klout, an analytics service that tracks users’ influence on Twitter (based on variables such as the quality and number of followers and retweets), to extend free flights (plus tax) to influencers in Toronto.

The offer includes free round-trip airfare (Wi-Fi included) between Toronto and San Francisco (SFO) or Los Angeles (LAX) between June 23 and August 23. Those who received invitations for the offer — whether or not they decide to accept the flight that comes with it — were also invited to Virgin America’s Toronto Launch Event on June 29.

Klout measures data through user-created content, indicating influence through interaction and size of networks. It then tabulates a score as its influence metric through 25 variables broken into three categories: True Reach, Amplification and Network Scores.
