( Reuters ) Chip maker Intel Corp said it would buy security technology firm McAfee Inc for $ 7.68 billion in an effort to make security technology a strategic focus.

Intel said it would pay $ 48 per share in cash for McAfee in its biggest acquisition ever. The price is a 60 percent premium to McAfee's Wednesday closing price. McAfee would become a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel's software and services group.

There are billion-plus phones sold per year. The number of active subscriptions, which is greater than half of the human population. The hundreds of thousands of apps for apple and android which is keeping the user hook to them.

Based on their respective numbers, the companies below represent the biggest OS vendors in both the smartphone and desktop space on earth. What's interesting is that, with the explosion of iOS devices and Android over the past year and the relative stagnation of the desktop market, mobile OS shipments are approaching that of desktop OSes. In fact, smartphones may be surpassing desktop OS shipments right now. I'm going to attempt to prove that below.

Zynga has announced it has crossed 100 million registered users who play their games. The suprising part is that it just took almost two and half years in reaching this milestone. NewYork Time got a chance to interact with Mark Pincus, Zynga's 44-year-old founder after reaching this milestone.

In a pep talk this month, Pincus told his company's newcomers that he had set out to build an enduring Internet icon, one that was synonymous with fun.

"I thought, it's 2007, and this can't be all that the Internet is meant to be," he said. There has to be more than "a garage sale, a bookstore, a search engine and a portal," he added in a good-natured putdown of the Web giants eBay, Amazon, Google and Yahoo.

Google search share slips: Report

(Reuters) - Google's dominance in search market is at saturated point? According to the research firm Strategy Analytics (SA), Google's position on the global online search market slipped slightly in the second quarter, as it retreated from the Chinese market, said on Friday.

Google's market share fell to 69.7 percent in the June quarter from 71.1 percent in the previous three months.

"Google's search revenue growth continues to slow down as the Western search market reaches maturity and Google struggles to gain share in the fastest-growing Asian markets," said Martin Olausson, analyst at Strategy Analytics.

"As a company, it will become increasingly more important for Google to find significant new revenue streams in order to offset decelerating growth in search," Olausson said.

"Your Managing Director often says that while products may generate market share, brands provide pricing power and create higher profits. I am increasingly tending to agree with him," the senior Bajaj wrote.

His comment is in contrast to the opinion he expressed earlier about the changes brought in by his son on the branding front.

Rajiv had said the 'Bajaj' name will be done away with from the motorcycles as the brand has been diluted, having presence from electricals to insurance to automobiles.
