In a statement, Apple said:
Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple's new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions.
Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.

An iPhone application that mimics the blasting of the African trumpet, however, has been downloaded more than a million times.
The app was designed by a Dutch duo. The Dutch have been the most vociferous in their disdain for the cacophonous horn, with coach Bert van Marwijk banning them from his team's training sessions and Dutch striker Robin van Persie blaming vuvuzelas on his inability to hear a referee's whistle.
"It's the Vuvuzela jackpot," said Jeroen Retrae, co-designer of the iVuvuzela at http://moblio.nl/
After gaining only a few thousand downloads since its launch eight months ago, downloads exploded after the start of the tournament, mostly from the United Kingdom, Germany and France.

We’ve seen the iPhone 3G running an older version of Android before, but now hackers have managed to install the latest version, Android 2.2 (also known as Froyo) on that same device.
Don’t try this out — not only because it’s potentially dangerous to your iPhone, but also because Android (Android) 2.2 doesn’t work very well on the iPhone. Currently, Wi-Fi and audio don’t work, which pretty much useless and kills the fun.
Still, if you want to see Froyo in action on the iPhone, you can check out the video below.

Wearing his usual black turtleneck and jeans, Jobs took the stage to a standing ovation from the audience and a shout of, "We love you Steve!"
Describing it as the 'biggest leap since the original iPhone' Apple CEO Steve Jobs finally revealed what everyone had gathered to hear at the company's World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco, California on Monday. Apple was launching the much awaited iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4 would be available in two colours, black and white. It would be priced at $199 in the US for the 16GB model, and 299 for the 32GB model. Apple would start taking pre-orders next week and ship initially to only five countries - US, France, Germany, UK, Japan. Jobs promised to add another 18 locations to the list in July. The number could go upto 88 countries by the end of the year in what Jobs described as the 'fastest rollout ever'. There was however no mention of when the iPhone 4 would be available in markets like India.
In what should be welcome news for existing iPhone users, Apple would be offering free iOS4 upgrades for the 3GS, 3G on June 21. However the offer comes with a rider - not all features will be supported in the 3G handset.
Jobs promised over 100 new features, out of which he discussed nine in his keynote.

The new application created for iPhone and the iPod will soon be available to BlackBerry users.
It has a traffic-fine calculator, a map showing directions to parking lots where vehicles are impounded after their drivers violate traffic rules.
The anti-bribe programme costs 20 pesos (about $1.50) in the virtual Apple store, and in less than three months has had more than 11,000 downloads, the administrator of the Futuro Movil company, Daniel Martinez Landeros, said.

Again iPhone, media's darling appears on the web. But now its not the phone but the metal frame work. This was first appeared in two videos posted on the blog iPhone Portugal.
Though there wasn't any apple logo embossed in it but by comparing it with its previous appearance on internet it seems its likely the metal frame for the iPhone 4G.
According to the blog owners, the two identical frames weren’t “stolen or found”; they were “purchased in China” and then “delivered” to them.

(Wired) -- News outlets may have spoiled the big surprise for Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference by publishing early photos and details of the next-generation iPhone. Nonetheless, in a recent e-mail, Steve Jobs promised a customer that "You won't be disappointed" by the announcements to come.
What else might Apple have in store for the event, which happens June 7 to 11 at San Francisco's Moscone Center? Before last year's WWDC, Wired.com accurately predicted the introduction of new iPhones and MacBooks, as well as the release date of the Snow Leopard operating system.
So with this year's WWDC keynote scheduled for June 7, we thought it'd be fun to step up and place our bets once again.
In addition to the obvious new iPhone, we're predicting something big happening with relation to streaming video.
Also, we dismiss recent rumors about Microsoft making an appearance to announce iPhone OS developer tools, and once again we file the possibility of a Verizon iPhone under "unlikely."

The BlackBerry's full Qwerty keyboard and push email has made it a firm favourite with businessmen and bankers worldwide. But the dominance of Research in Motion's devices could be under threat from Apple's iPhone.
British bank Standard Chartered has just announced that it is migrating its workforce from BlackBerrys to iPhones. Workers will now be offered a choice between either handset, or will be allowed to switch if they currently use a Blackberry. Given the scale of the company, which has some 75,000 employees, it could signal the beginning of a major shift in handsets for businessmen worldwide.
