With the new Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) regulations, effective from March 1, 2011, we can hope some relief from the unwanted calls and SMSes.


Here are some of the proposals by TRAI:

Under the new guidelines consumers can choose their preference to receive or not to receive commercial communication from seven pre-defined categories. Users also have the option to either block all commercial calls and SMSes or to block only commercial calls while receiving SMSes of their choice.

Scientists from the Australia’s ICT Research Centre of Excellence’s spinout company — Open Kernel Labs claims to have developed the world’s first hack-free software which can protect systems from failure or malicious attacks.

They developed a kernel, seL4 microkernel cum OS that regulates access to a computer’s hardware.

The scientist also claims that its a unique feature, mathematically proven to operate correctly, enabling it to separate trusted from untrusted software, protecting critical services from a failure or a malicious attack.

Chinese govt to equip govt vehicles with GPS to prevent officials for personal use.

In order to reduce govt. expenditure on their staff and using govt property for self, Government vehicles in China's Guangzhou city will now have Global Positition System (GPS).

A satellite positioning terminal will be installed on each official vehicle, the China Daily cited the Guangzhou Daily as reporting on Wednesday.

Through GPS a government car's position can be checked at any time and would show on the map.

After Tata Docomo(total) and Reliance(partial) launching 3G services, Bharti Airtel on Monday, i.e., 24-Jan 2011, launched its 3G service in India, with rollout plans to cover 1500-plus cities across the country by March next year.

By March this year, the Airtel said it would launch 3G service in 40-plus cities in 13 telecom circles, where it had won spectrum (radio waves) for 3G services in the auction held by the Government last year.

Police believe the same man, disguised in his Obama mask, has been carrying out such bank raids for the past two years.

The daily Kronenzeitung, in its online edition, says that robber got hands on 10,000 euros (USD 13,500).

A non-computer geek, Shigeru Kondo, from Japan calculates the value of pi to five trillion digits, now hold world record.

It all started with his hobby and love for his computer processing power and some help from US computer science student, Alexander Yee, who programed the application software.

Japanese businessman, Shigeru Kondo, with his home-built computer calculate the ever growing value of 'Pi', the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, to five trillion digits, almost doubling the accuracy of the previous world record.

His calculation was recognized by Guinness World Records with a certificate mailed to him.

Using parts from local warehouses and online stores, Kondo assembled a desktop computer that featured two high-end Intel processors and 20 external hard-drives.

Passwords stored in your Web Browser are not safe, says c't, a German Computer Magazine. c't warns, by storing, we provide an easy gateway to access our unencrypted passwords to hackers with malwares and spywares.

The Tech magazine recommends that people who insist on storing passwords on a browser at least use some kind of master password, which means that all stored access data is safely encrypted. At present, which is available only with Firefox and Opera.

Modern Astronomers welcome Ophiuchus, a new addition to the present 12 Zodiac signs. Ophiuchus is a rarely used astrological sign that is not included in most versions of the Zodiac calendars, also known as 'Serpentarius' with its dates falling between November 29 and December 17.

Ophiuchus was said to be counted between Scorpio and Sagittarius. But it was discarded by the Babylonians because they wanted 12 signs per year.

Taken from the Greek word for 'serpent-bearer', the sign is portrayed by a man grasping the snake that is represented by the constellation Serpens. Ophiuchus was one of the 48 constellations proposed by Ptolemy in the second century. It was earlier known as Serpentarius, a Latin word for serpent-bearer.

Disney's Pixar previews the teaser of popular animated movie 'Cars 2' at Detroit Auto Show

Disney Pixar's 'Cars' sequel 'Cars 2' is back. Jay Schuster and Brad Lewis from Pixar Animation Studios, provided some hints of their coming film, “Cars 2,” which opens on June 24 while addressing an event at Detroit Auto Show.

Mr. Schuster is the film’s art director and Mr. Lewis, its co-director.

About their upcoming movie, they revealed one major new character, Finn McMissile, is based on James Bond’s 1964 Aston Martin DB5 and a secret agent babe, body inspired by Jaguar. Finn is given voice by Michael Caine and secret agent babe's by Holley Shiftwell.

(PTI)Researchers at the University of Chicago found that the exercise of writing down worries appears to clear the mind and allows it too focus on the job in hand.

The technique is so powerful that students taking an exam showed a 20 per cent improvement in their marks if they used it just before sitting down, they found.

"People are in this stressful situation and they worry about it and the consequences," said Prof Sian Beilock, who led the study.
