Polymer of new type, new form of "shape memory polymers" was found. Whats new is that it have the ability to regenerate to its previous form once damaged. This all happens because of embedded fiber optics.
Worked by engineer Henry Sodano's team at Arizona State University, here it is how its works.
The polymers filled with a mesh of fiber optic cables, when damaged, detected when light leaks through breakage, thus light then delivers heat to the source of the damage, which helps in regeneration.
Application of this polymer are very wide.
