World's Cheapest Android Tablet, Aakash @ $ 35

After a long wait, here comes the world's cheapest android tablet from Indian Govt, which it states that it is purely developed for Educational purpose. Major Indian News channel, NDTV, got hands on the Aakash, the tablet which is named after. Its a 7" resistive tablet, looks similar to Sam Galaxy 7" Tab at instant look. It is preloaded with Android 2.2.2 (Froyo), powered by 366 MHz processor.

Connectivity: GPRS and WiFi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g , 2 USB ports
RAM: 256 MB
Memory: 2 GB Flash Internal(2GB Card Included), expandable upto 32 GB.
Battery: 2100 mAh.
Processor: 366 Mhz. Connexant with Graphics accelerator and HD Video processor

But, here is the naked truth. Actually, $ 35 is subsidized priced, which can be avail only by educational institutions. Here is maths........ Manufacturing cost: $37.98, when it reach the end of cycle, i.e., to the consumer, it cost around $ 50 approx (Rs. 2,276). Cost to educational institute: Rs 1500 (50% subsidy by government) and without govt subsidy, it cost Rs. 3,000 for normal consumer.

Now  comes the PROS and CONS.

PROS:

  • It can play 1080p videos.
  • Price (especially to students).
  • and much to be discovered .....

CONS:

  • Resistive touch screen.
  • No Android Market app.
  • Screen lags.

and i don't like to talk much about CONS as it comes at low price.
