Twitter Sets New Record: 3,283 Tweets Per Second.

Twitter’s biggest tweets per second record to date was during last week’s NBA finals. That record was shattered yesterday as Twitter users published 3,283 tweets per second at the close of Japan’s victory over Denwark in the World Cup.

Previous record of 3,085 tweets per second was for NBA.

Both of these recent records are staggering given that Twitter — during normal daily activity — averages roughly 750 tweets per second. The Japan-Demark World Cup figure means that activity swelled 438% above average.

US Football match might set new Net Record.

The match between the U.S. and Algeria on Wednesday could set a new record for internet traffic.

Akamai's Net Usage Index, which tracks visitors per minute on the company's vast network of websites. In the minutes following Landon Donovan's game winning goal in the 91st minute of action (which sent the US to the round of 16), traffic spiked to 11.2 million visitors per minute, which move the event past the 2008 presidential election as the second highest traffic day of all-time.

The overall traffic record was set earlier this month during the first day of World Cup action, where traffic exceeded 12 million visitors per minute. We'll wait and see what the final numbers are from Akamai, but for the moment, it looks like Donovan's goal will go down in Internet history at least as a solid No. 2.

The G-rated movie starring everyone's favorite Pixar characters Buzz Lightyear and Cowboy Woody grossed an estimated $109 million, earning the status of Pixar's highest-grossing opening weekend ever.

It helped that "Toy Story 3" bowed in more than 2,000 3-D locations, a number that accounted more than 50 percent of its gross. Its IMAX numbers were also solid: The film earned 8 percent of its total from the 180 large-screen theaters. The movie generated a 99 percent positive rating from review collector site Rotten Tomatoes and an A from exit pollster CinemaScore.

The animated flick also helped boost the box office more than 30 percent over this weekend last year, when "The Proposal" debuted to $33 million.

Abu Dhabi 'Capital Gate' now beats leaning tower of Pisa.

An Abu Dhabi tower has been recognised as the "furthest-leaning man-made tower" in the world by Guinness World Records, local newspapers reported on June 6.

The 160-metre Capital Gate tower, developed by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company, leans at 18 degrees over four times the angle of Italy's famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Khaleej Times reported.

ADNEC said the tower earned the record following an evaluation by Guinness World Records that began in January, the month the tower's exterior was completed, Gulf News reported.

Capital Gate was designed from the get-go to take an angled stance, unlike the Tower of Pisa, which slanted over with time.

The 35-storey tower's 18-degree angle is achieved by staggering the floor plates from the 12th floor up, the newspaper added.
