The prestigious 'The Art of Photography Show' which is gonna held at San Diego, US, this year(2011) will be having a sole Indian representative. Vicky Roy, a street child-turned ace art photographer, talent will be show cased at the prestigious 'The Art of Photography Show 2011' later this month.

Vicky Roy's photograph was one of the 109 entries from 72 countries chosen from among 15,444 photographs."

The chosen photograph, "In all colors and sizes", is from Roy's new photography series "A Better Life".

This survey was prepared keeping an eye on the high number of female foeticide, infanticide and human trafficking prevalent in India.

Recently, China claimed to be leader in Supercomputing by introducing Tianhe-1A, a supercomputer which has peak performance of 2.566 PFLOPS, powered by 14,336 Intel Xeon CPUs and 7,168 Nvidia Tesla M2050 GPUs with a new interconnect fabric of Chinese origin, situated at National Supercomputing Center, Tianjin, China. According to the survey conducted by global realty consultant Cushman & Wakefield, Mumbai slipped by one place to sixth in the list of the world's most expensive office locations in 2011, which was topped by Hong Kong, while London and Tokyo came second and third in the rankings, which valued Mumbai's office occupancy cost at USD 114 per square foot a year.

Militants in Kashmir, India forms Rock band in Jail.

A group of militants who are in jail at Kot Bhalwal set up their own band, named, the Inmates Pipe Band and was inaugurated by BR Sharma, principal secretary of the home ministry, Tuesday.

The band members will be allowed to go out of the prison confines to perform, officials said.

The band has been formed by the prisons department as part of its initiatives to reform prisoners and create opportunities for them for a fruitful vocation once they are out of jail. The band is also one of the very few "inmate bands" in the country.

This special coins will be released by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee before his Budget speech, will also be brought out in Rs 5 denomination on the occasion of completion of 150 years, from 1860 to 2010, of the Income Tax department.

With the new Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) regulations, effective from March 1, 2011, we can hope some relief from the unwanted calls and SMSes.


Here are some of the proposals by TRAI:

Under the new guidelines consumers can choose their preference to receive or not to receive commercial communication from seven pre-defined categories. Users also have the option to either block all commercial calls and SMSes or to block only commercial calls while receiving SMSes of their choice.

After Tata Docomo(total) and Reliance(partial) launching 3G services, Bharti Airtel on Monday, i.e., 24-Jan 2011, launched its 3G service in India, with rollout plans to cover 1500-plus cities across the country by March next year.

By March this year, the Airtel said it would launch 3G service in 40-plus cities in 13 telecom circles, where it had won spectrum (radio waves) for 3G services in the auction held by the Government last year.

Engineering students from Chennai, India develops nano satellites, weighs less than 10kgs

A group of 54(51 men and 3 women) engineering students from SRM University, Chennai, designed and developed a 10-kg nano satellite which is aimed to monitor greenhouse gases (GHG), expects, launch off with ISRO's Megatropics G satellite this April by ISRO.

Project named as 'SRMSAT', worked began long back in 2008, developed under the guidance of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).An estimated Rs.1 crore of rupees in invested in this project.

The students from 12 deparments of engineering in the university have been working closely with the ISRO to develop the nano satellite.

Coal India will attempt second time to buy Mahatma Gandhi's Johannesburg house

Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal told PTI that we will be going to South Africa to make its second attempt to buy the house of Mahatma Gandhi in Johannesburg, where he had lived for over a year, with the desire to build a memorial there.

Earlier in August 2009, Coal India had made similar attempt to buy the house but that couldnt happened.

Fifth Generation Fighter air-crafts to be jointly developed by India and Russia.

Russian President is on 2 day official visit to India. In his tour, India and Russia on Dec-21 decided to jointly design and manufacture a most advanced Fifth generation stealth fighter by signing a preliminary design contract which is said to be worth $30 billion.

The preliminary design contract for the fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) "envisages joint design and development" of the jet, an official statement said.
